What we collect when you sign in
Google sign-in provides your basic profile information and email address. The Artificial Post uses that information to identify your account and provide the signed-in library.
Account data is stored through Supabase. This includes your email, reading preferences, saved articles, private reading notes, newsletter consent, and course enrollment and lesson progress. Reading notes are available to your signed-in account and are not included in usage analytics. You can clear a note in the reading room; removing your Artificial Post data also removes your notes.
Reading activity and analytics
We record limited first-party events such as pages viewed, articles opened, saves, source clicks, video opens, searches, and course activity. These events help us understand which parts of the publication work and are retained for 30 days.
We also use Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate traffic statistics, including public pages visited, referring sites, device types, and approximate regions. Vercel uses a temporary request-derived identifier rather than third-party analytics cookies. We remove query strings and fragments from the page URLs we send, and exclude authentication, account, search, saved-reading, and private Council routes. Our 30-day retention period above applies to our own event records; Vercel handles its analytics records under its analytics privacy policy.
Analytics are disabled when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals, when you turn off usage analytics in the site’s About section, and during local development. These signals and the opt-out are applied to the analytics we control; other sites you visit have their own practices.
What stays in your browser
Practice exercises can save your attempts, corrections, and next step on this browser. This practice record is separate from account-saved lesson completion and does not sync between devices. Use the exercise’s clear control to remove it. Private-browser settings or clearing website storage may also remove this record.
Topic interests and feed preferences are processed and stored locally in your browser. Main-library keyword search and optional semantic search run on your device. The Papers and Academia directories send your search text and filters to this site’s public paper-search endpoint so we can return a smaller set of results; those queries are excluded from our usage analytics, though normal server request logs may contain them. Search queries are not sent to an external embedding service.
Other services
The reading room displays original manuscripts within this site. Some paper viewers connect to the original manuscript host; others load through our server. Publication-record and source links take you to the original publisher. Video playback may connect to the video host when you choose to watch. Those services may receive normal connection information and have their own privacy policies.
The site is hosted on web infrastructure and uses security and operational logs. Hosting providers or network services may collect information such as IP address, browser details, and request times as part of operating and protecting the service.
Email delivery has not launched. If you save interest in a future email edition, we store that consent with your account; we do not currently send the edition by email.
